Thai Massage Practitioner Training (5 Weekend Course)

Each weekend consists of 12 hours of class time primarily devoted to demonstrations and supervised thai massage practice. New techniques will be presented throughout each weekend. By the end of the five weekend course students will have learned and reviewed four main positions and will have the skills to give a full body thai massage. The training is primarily hands on with guidance from the instructor. The general sequence of this training is common amidst many schools in Thailand. Anatomy will be reviewed as we cover various sections of the body. Time will be dedicated to practicing yoga and meditation to help students develop comfort while working and an ability to remain present during the learning experience.
Fundamentals/Supine Position Weekend 1: Sep. 8-10
Thai Massage Fundamentals weekend provides instruction on how to perform Thai Massage in Supine Position. Supine position includes very effective ways to release tension and open the legs, hips and shoulders. Fundamental techniques and a traditional sequence of positions will be taught.
Supine Position Weekend 2: Sep. 22 - 24 Supine position includes very effective ways to release tension and open the legs, hips and shoulders. Time will be dedicated to practicing yoga and meditation to help students develop comfort while working and an ability to remain present during the learning experience. Additionally we will deepen our understanding of the energy system of this healing art and how the Sen lines play a significant role in the work we do.
Side Lying Position Weekend 3: Oct. 13-15 This weekend will focus on techniques of the side-lying position. Students learn effective techniques to go deep to unwind typically tight areas in the hips and shoulders. Access the shoulders and hips from this alternative vantage point. This is also a great position for people that cannot lay down on their backs, including pregnant woman. During the weekend there is time for review of what we learned in previous weekends and also the opportunity to work on friends and community members.
Prone Position Weekend 4: Oct. 27 - 29 This weekend will focus on techniques of the seated and prone position. Prone and seated positions provide excellent access to the hips, spine and shoulders. Students learn effective techniques to release chronic tension around the spine, hips and shoulders. During the weekend there is time for review of what we learned in previous weekends and also the opportunity to work on friends and community members.
Seated Position Weekend 5: Nov 10 - 12
Seated position weekend includes dynamic techniques to effectively access the neck and shoulders and spine. There is time for review of what we learned in previous weekends and also the opportunity to work on friends and community members.
Weekend Schedules: Fri 6-8:30pm, Sat 1-6, Sun 1-6
Cost: $1800 for the full five weekend course.

RUN/WALK - ASANA - NIDRA

Big River Yoga's first ever Triathlon Event (a mindful "tri-OM-thlon") on the day after the Autumn Equinox!
7:00am - Doors open 7:30am - Run 4 miles/Walk 2 miles 8:45am - Yoga class (level 1) - 50 mins - with Geri 9:45am - Yoga Nidra (Yogic "Sleep") - 45 mins - with Gretchen 10:30 - 11:30am - Refreshments & Treats to follow
RUN/WALK: Choose between a 4 mile run loop or a 2 mile walking route along the Mississippi River. Both will be lead by a Big River Yoga staff member or teacher and mapped out.
YOGA CLASS: A 50 minute level 1 yoga class aimed at cooling down and stretching out after the run/walk. Lengthen your hamstrings, easy tension in your hips and calm your nervous system.
YOGA NIDRA: Translated as "yogic sleep"; a guided relaxation that utilizes visualizations combined with intention setting practices perfect for the Equinox transition in order to manifest your visions. Participants will be laying flat in supported savasana pose and guided through the practice.
