Jude Higdon

Jude Higdon has been practicing yoga since 2004 and teaching since 2007. He studied and practiced with Anusara® teachers in L.A; Noah Maze and Ross Rayburn before moving to the twin cities. He aims to brings a fun, playful teaching and practice style to his yoga classes. He holds a doctoral degree in educational psychology and works as an educational technologist in a variety of contexts, primarily in higher education. He practices asana (yoga postures) regularly with his husband Chad and his daughter Maya, who’s favorite pose is tree pose.

Coleen Elwood

Coleen Elwood is the founder of PEACE MEDICINE, offering classes in meditation, yoga & Shamanism throughout the Twin Cities since 1999. Coco has been a student of Meditation since 1971, yoga since 1995, teaching since 1999. Certifed in Atma (2001) and Pre-natal yoga (2002) she currently trains teachers for the Yoga Center of Minneapolis Yoga Study program ( both 230 & 500 hour programs) . Peace Medicine was created to integrate her training in Reiki ( 2003 master) and extensive Shamanic study ( Winds of Change 2006-present). Her classes are Earth-based & soul-centered, gentle & meditative, designed to awaken intuition & nourish peace within. Coleen got her start teaching in the current Big River space and is excited to join Chris Gordon and his staff at Big River Yoga . Coco brings a backround in Music ( Zuzu's Petals/ Shakti Chant Band), yoga reiki, shamanism to her classes, retreats, workshops, trainings and private sessions. No experience necessary. All levels welcome!

Sarah Baumert

Sarah Baumert teaches what she practices. Her sequences offer the chance to slow down and feel the results of an embodied practice that emphasizes alignment and safety in order to establish a base for a long life of practice. She works to facilitate whole body alignment in her students, both physically and energetically. Sarah’s teaching is a breath inspired practice that focuses on flowing in and out of poses with ease and finding variations that work for each individual body. Physically, a class with Sarah extends far beyond yoga poses. She teaches from her own experience and practice of modern dance, Feldenkrais, Body Mind Centering, Tuning Scores, Material for the Spine, and her daily practice of living in 2013. She guides students to deepen their own learning process through her imaginative sensory rich movement experiments. Sarah earned a BFA in dance and kinesiology at the University of Minnesota. Her experience includes teaching at the Lemuel Shattock Hospital in Boston, Harvard Center for Wellness, MIT, the University of Minnesota, as well as yoga studios, gyms, and as a part of wellness programs for corporations. Her most current teaching influence is from master teacher Barbara Benagh with whom she studied with during her 500 hour training.

Geraldine Hickerson

Geraldine is a teacher; it is her calling. She has taught Health and Wellness in public schools for 25 years before beginning her second career as a yoga instructor and Thai body worker. Her educational career combined with the teaching of yoga results in well-planned classes accessible to all levels. She is able to meet individual student needs on the fly and create unique modifications when necessary. Geraldine is passionate about self-care and healing through movement and breath practice that is accessible to every body. Outside the studio you can find her creating memories with her family and friends in a variety of ways; good meals shared, live music experiences, travel, and watching hockey…yes, she is a hockey fanatic!

Stephanie Mauceri

Steph is a native New Yorker who relocated to The Twin Cities in November 2009. She has been practicing Yoga since 1991 and teaching since 2003. Her first teaching certification was from OM Yoga NYC with additional studies/certifications in Prenatal Yoga, Yin Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga, Yoga for Children, and Anatomy for Yoga Teachers.

Although initially beginning her Yoga practice in the Ashtanga and Vinyasa traditions, she was in a car accident in 2004 and this caused her to reestablish her practice as more of a restorative and rehabilitative modality. Steph's classroom teaching style especially blends Vinyasa and Iyengar techniques with a strong emphasis on anatomy and kinesiology.

She is also a writer, proud mom of healthy fraternal twin boys-- born in 2010, and starting in summer 2015 will begin coursework towards a masters degree in Integrative Health Coaching.

Leona Starnes

Leona started practicing yoga in 2005, and received her RYT 200 hour certification through Chicago’s Yoga Now in February 2011. Leona is passionate about sharing the empowering message of yoga. Her own practice continues to get her in touch with her inner strength and knowledge, constantly reaffirming that by cultivating self-awareness and self-compassion we find our own innate power to heal. Leona teaches her students how yoga can be used to connect to their inner healer both on and off the mat. Whatever your level or reason for practicing, Leona looks forward to sharing some breath and laughter with you!

Chris Gordon

Chris Gordon has been teaching yoga classes and workshops for the past 20 years. He is Owner/Director of Big River Yoga and is also a healer, specializing in Thai Massage and leads Thai Massage Trainings in the twin cites and beyond. Chris delights in his meditation practice and loves being active. He enjoys bicycling, running, and gardening. In his classes, Chris applies the ancient teachings of yoga to everyday life. He is passionate about teaching, is clear, down to earth and reverent.
This class takes a gentle approach to a yoga. Using the wall, chairs, bolsters and blankets we modify yoga postures to meet the needs of varying abilities. Breathing is emphasized and meditation is introduced.
